The 2024 Jamba Nyinayi Festival will see the new inclusion of very limited one and two night, on-station camping and cultural experience packages – for those seeking authentic, intimate, and inspirational cultural experiences.
2 NIGHT CAMPING PACKAGES
The two-night camping and cultural experience packages come in two categories: Happy Camper and Do It Yourself (DIY) Camping.
These very limited camping and cultural experience packages will be located around the old Cardabia shearer’s quarters (the Old Quarters), and will give two night campers exclusive access to the Old Quarters with toilets, showers, coffee and food trucks, plus access to the Campfire Sessions– intimate music and entertainment performances, the Shearers’ Quarters Bar presented by Whalebone Brewery and exclusive Cultural Workshops.
Happy Campers will also have a selection of traditional meals included within the package. A traditional firepit cook up and breakfasts menu that have been created by the Baiyungu cultural elders and will be delivered by the Festival kitchen team with support from Indigenous cooks and volunteers. Bush tucker ingredients and local produce will be used where possible. Check out the menu, which may be subject to slight change pending availability of specific ingredients.
Access to these intimate cultural dining, campfire performances, and workshop experiences are ONLY AVAILABLE for those who purchase two night, on station camping packages.
HAPPY CAMPER
Happy Campers rejoice – we’ve taken care of everything for you! The Happy Camper package is for those looking to arrive at Cardabia Station and settle straight into the festival vibes without the hassle of setting up camp. Happy Campers can enjoy a refreshing beverage from the Shearers’ Quarters Bar presented by Whalebone Brewery before feasting on a traditional Baiyungu firepit cook up and breakfasts delivered by the Festival kitchen team with support from Indigenous cooks and volunteers.
Festival eve will see the Campfire Sessions kick off with intimate music, dance, language & other cultural performances.
Happy Campers can access multiple Cultural Workshops on the morning of Friday, 12 April. These workshops are free for Happy Campers, but spaces are limited and must be booked prior.
Strolling from the Old Quarters to the JNF Festival Main Stage, located on the Salt Flats, Happy Campers will have full access to all the action of Jamba Nyinayi Festival on Friday, 12 April.

Please note: Happy Camper sites are unpowered, however there is a solar lantern provided in each tent, ambient lighting in the area, and access to phone charging stations. Due to the remote nature of the event and the cooking styles being used, varied dietary and allergy requirements can not be accommodated outside of the existing menu. Vegetarian options are available.
DIY CAMPER
Got your own camping set up, camper van, motor home, or caravan – the Do It Yourself two-night package is for you!
DIY campers can experience station camping their way while still enjoying access to the Old Quarters including showers and toilets, the Shearers’ Quarters Bar presented by Whalebone Brewery, coffee and food stalls, and the Festive eve Campfire Sessions with intimate music, dance, language and other cultural performances.

Travelling to Cardabia Station for the Festival and keen to overnight it? Jamba Nyinayi Festival is now offering one-night, unpowered sites for visitors attending the Festival on Friday 12 April. Just book in, pull up, and camp at your leisure for the night. Overnighters will have access to a food and coffee vendor in the morning after the festival.

For those that have booked the 2night on station camping packages, you will have exclusive access to the Campfire Sessions on the eve of the festival. Campfire Sessions include extended festival content and intimate cultural experiences, from sharing traditional bush foods (Happy Campers only) to music, dance and storytelling by an open campfire under the stars. This is for 2 night campers who’d like to come and sit with us and “rest a while” – Jamba Nyinayi

7:00pm – 7.15pm Baiyungu Welcome: Traditional Owners sharing the JNF24 theme (“A Gathering Place”) language & yarning. With Hazel Walgar and others.
7.15pm – 7.30pm Traditional Dance: Ngurrangga Ngunda-nari dancers will give a preview of their mainstage performances, with traditional dances from the Pilbara.
7.30pm – 7:35pm Didgeridoo: solo didgeridoo from Bryce Mongoo, one of the Gascoyne’s finest exponents.
7.40pm – 9.00pm Intimate music session and jam: A selection of artists presenting acoustic & intimate performance & yarning, including Stephen Pigram, David Milroy & Lucky Oceans, Kankawa Nagarra (Olive Knight), Fred Ryan, Wes Mongoo, Raymond Edney, Hazel Walgar and David Hyams
9.00pm – 9.30pm Campfire Yarns with Clinton Walker of Ngurrangga Tours Ngunda-nari as story sharer. Clinton will talk to the night sky and the connection to dreaming stories and landscapes.

For those lucky enough to secure one of the limited on-station, two night camping packages, you will have access to a selection of hands-on, immersive cultural workshops . These workshops will allow festival goers to delve deeper into cultural experiences on Baiyungu country, and will cater to a wide range of interests.
The cultural workshops are only available for those on two-night camping packages. Spaces are limited, and registrations are essential. Details below on the individual workshops. Registration for the workshops is available through Moshtix after you have purchased your Happy Camper or DIY camper packages.

Yawuru singer songwriter from Broome Stephen Pigram is a creative powerhouse who has carved an influential path over the past 40 years, collaborating with the likes of Jimmy Chai, Kuckles, Scrap metal and as one seventh of the influential Pigram Brothers band, Now mainly a solo artist, he stands as an important early pioneer of Aboriginal rock.
In this workshop Stephen goes through his unique process of song writing.

A number of our 2024 festival artists have been involved with the “Songs for Freedom” project, which has been running since 2012 in the North West WA town of Roebourne. The project toured the country in 2023, featuring members of the Roebourne community with some amazing special guests including Shane Howard, Kutcha Edwards, Emma Donovan and Shellie Morris. The project evolved through songwriting workshops in the Roebourne community and Roebourne regional prison, with the aim of raising awareness of the high rates of Aboriginal incarceration, as well as enriching community life through involvement in the arts.
In this workshop the artists will discuss the collaborative song writing methods that were developed in the community and perform some of the resulting songs.

A workshop led by the festival’s dance co-ordinator Janine Oxenham, supported by members of Pundarra Performance group and Coral Spawn dancers.
Janine is a Malgana Yamatji woman from the Shark Bay area in WA and grew up on Yinggarda Country in Carnarvon. She has choreographed and performed as a freelance contemporary Indigenous dancer for numerous festivals and projects in Regional & Metro WA. Janine has a love of working with community to tell Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Stories through movement & performance art.
Participants will learn moves from one of the dances to be performed at the 2024 festival, and the stories that are being told with the movement.

Maureen Foster is a Carnarvon based artist with ancestral connections to Nookenbah in the Kimberly region, her grandfather’s country. Inspired by Aboriginal traditions, she uses washable poster paint to decorate objects such as abalone shells, boomerangs and keyrings. She also uses coconut husks to make necklaces. Maureen starts each workshop with a conversation, showing her methods as well as traditional techniques such ochre and dot painting. This workshop is suitable for both kids and adults.

Renata Kelly is a young artist born and raised in Karratha with ancestral links to Baiyungu – Ingarrda through her Great Grandmother Mary Franklin (nee Cooyou), and Ngarluma – Yinjabandi through her Great Grandfather (Reggie Hicks). She is also connected to Lungka Kija (Moola Bulla – Halls creek) from her grandfather Marty Stevens.
Renata worked closely with her great grandmother Hazel Walgar for the Jamba Nyinayi festival artwork from its inception in 2023 around the total solar eclipse and again provided the design for the 2024 festival.
Her workshop will focus on painting and line drawing as well as the stories behind her designs. Children are encouraged to attend.

Join Ngarluma & Yindjibarndi woman Cherylea Walker, to learn basic skills of how to identify bush medicine plants, their healing properties and traditional methods of use. The workshop includes:
* Bush medicine show and tell and explanation of medicinal uses
* Sampling and testing bush medicine products
* Bush teas tasting & demonstrations of preparation
* A traditional tasting plate will be served as light refreshments

Toni Roe is Thadgari on her grandmother’s side and Wadjarri on her grandfather’s side. Born and raised in Carnarvon she was inspired by her mother to experiment with weaving. She later joined the renowned Jilinbirri Weavers, who have given workshops all around the country, as well as attending the National Indigenous Weaving Symposium in New Zealand.
In her weaving Toni collects the banana fibre from the husk of the banana tree and dyes it with colours of the landscape. She uses raffia in her workshops as it is an easy medium for beginners. Participants will learn weaving techniques to make a small basket a coaster, or an animal.

Karla Tittums is a Baiyungu woman residing in Carnarvon and an award-winning artist across many different mediums. Her current arts practice focusses on weaving with various fibres including banana fibre from the banana tree trunk, which she collects, dries and dyes with colours of the landscape. As a child Karla learned these techniques which were passed down from her Elders. Her work has gained her recognition through various awards including the Katherine Aboriginal Art Award and she was awarded 1st prize for sculpture in the Exmouth Community Arts Show. In 2024 she will be exhibiting her work at the renowned Cossack Art Awards and the ‘Revealed’ exhibition at the Fremantle Arts Centre.
Karla chooses to use raffia in her workshops as it is an easy medium for beginners. Participants will learn techniques to make bracelets, earrings, placemats and baskets, depending on their age and experience and will leave with the basic skills of how to do it themselves.

Aimed at the younger festival goers, this 2 hour workshop focusses on lyric writing, vocal recording & performance with the opportunity to be involved in a performance in Razzy’s mainstage set.
Razzy Mak is a Yamaji Rapper from Western Australia. Born in Port Hedland, raised in Broome, Geraldton and Perth, Razzy has a fresh style, influenced by both old school and new school rappers. Razzy started ‘freestyle’ rapping and writing lyrics in boarding school and after years of developing his craft, released a number of singles, mixtapes & music videos, building a strong following in his home state. ” As an Indigenous Australian I want show the world my talent, not only for myself, but for my people. I want to inspire other young Indigenous & non Indigenous people to follow their dreams, show them that anything is possible!!”
Zero Emcee won the 2018 NAIDOC Emerging Artist Award and has worked in many different scenarios, including joining the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) for a collaboration called Beats & Pieces, a highlight of their 2023 program. Recent work has included a stint at the Don Dale Youth Detention Centre in the Northern Territory, teaching hip hop to detainees.

Born in Eradu, Charmaine is a proud Wajarri, Badimaya and Wilunyu woman of the Yamaji Nation. A visual artist, author, poet, photographer, storyteller, social science researcher, and academic, she shares her cultural knowledge in many different spheres. Charmaine has written five books, won several awards including the prestigious Australian Literary Society Gold Medal, and her poetry is studied as part of primary and school curriculum. Involved with the Yamaji Art Centre in Geraldton for over 22 years, she is currently their Chairperson.
Charmaine is devoted to serving the community and does this creatively through an evidence-based lens, with honesty, humility, courage, and deep strength.
In her workshop Charmaine offers the festival a space to combine creating an original handwritten short poem worked into a small sand painting, with a focus on the festival location and home of the Baiyungu people and country . The created artworks will be displayed on a creative clothes line for the festival atmosphere and participants to read and enjoy.

Kankawa Nagarra is a Walmatjarri Elder and blues singer-songwriter from the isolated desert community of Wangkatjungka in WA’s East Kimberly. This unique and inspiring performer is also well-respected elder, teacher, mentor, human rights advocate, and political activist. She fell in love with the blues after hearing it on the radio as a young woman, the music reminding her of the repetitive sounds and rhythms of the traditional Aboriginal music she was brought up with in the desert.
This presentation explores how the girl from Wangkatjungka in WA’s remote Kimberley region who did not own her own guitar until she was 40, built an international career as a touring artist and continued singing the blues in her own language, in an area where country and reggae are king. From performing in remote communities, she went to opening for Hugh Jackman on the International stage, performing at iconic venues such as the Hollywood Bowl.
