Steel Guitar with Lucky Oceans and Angus Smith
About this Event
USA born Fremantle based Lucky Oceans is a musician with deep roots in many musical styles – jazz, blues, country, western swing, folk, bluegrass. He gets truly interested when the boundaries come down and pure music is being made in the moment. Former host of the beloved and acclaimed Daily Planet on ABC RN for 21 years and a double grammy award winner, he has performed with Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Paul Kelly, Archie Roach and Hank Marvin. He is committed to pushing his instrument, the Pedal Steel Guitar, into new directions and has been called ‘the most influential steel guitarist of his generation.’
In this presentation Lucky explores different styles on two of his ‘steel guitars’, the pedal steel guitar and dobro. He will be joined by Pilbara multi-instrumentalist Angus Smith – also a highly skilled exponent of both instruments – for a discussion and demonstration of different styles and techniques, featuring explorations and improvisation.
