About this Event

This year Jamba Nyinayi Festival introduces a new and unique program highlight on the festival’s Sunday morning, with artists and festival goers having the opportunity to come together to sing on Baiyungu country.

Audiences can join visitors Shane Howard (Goanna Band, Black Arm Band), Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse, and others in the reimagined Shearing Shed for an uplifting community singing event, where Shane’s Australian anthem “Solid Rock, Sacred Ground” will be sung in the traditional language of the Ningaloo area, Baiyungu, also led by Baiyungu elder Hazel Walgar.

The literal translation of Nhanooda Bagulya is “strong mob”, signifying people coming together on solid ground to sing and the event will also feature other JNF artists including Fred Ryan, Lucky Oceans and David Milroy.

No singing experience is necessary, though the language versions of the songs will be workshopped in the Saturday morning sessions with Shane, as well as Gina and Guy, as preparation to be sung live on the Sunday.
