Weaving with Toni Roe

LOCATION : Back G Block

Toni Roe is Thadgari on her grandmother’s side and Wadjarri on her grandfather’s side. Born and raised in Carnarvon she was inspired by her mother to experiment with weaving. She later joined the renowned Jilinbirri Weavers, who have given workshops all around the country, as well as attending the National Indigenous Weaving Symposium in New Zealand.

In her weaving Toni collects the banana fibre from the husk of the banana tree and dyes it with colours of the landscape. She uses raffia in her workshops as it is an easy medium for beginners. Participants will learn weaving techniques to make a small basket a coaster, or an animal.
