Karla Tittums is a Baiyungu woman residing in Carnarvon and an award-winning artist across many different mediums. Her current arts practice focusses on weaving with various fibres including banana fibre from the banana tree trunk, which she collects, dries and dyes with colours of the landscape. As a child Karla learned these techniques which were passed down from her Elders. Her work has gained her recognition through various awards including the Katherine Aboriginal Art Award and she was awarded 1st prize for sculpture in the Exmouth Community Arts Show. In 2024 she will be exhibiting her work at the renowned Cossack Art Awards and the ‘Revealed’ exhibition at the Fremantle Arts Centre.

Karla chooses to use raffia in her workshops as it is an easy medium for beginners. Participants will learn techniques to make bracelets, earrings, placemats and baskets, depending on their age and experience and will leave with the basic skills of how to do it themselves.
